In specials, all students are expected to follow all school & classroom rules.

Franklin Academy Rules
Be kind.
Be respectful.
Be responsible.
Be your best.

Consequences if expectations are not met:

2nd offense: Check next to name; colored in box as outlined by kindergarten box system
3rd offense: Second check; another colored in box; contact parents
4th offense: Third check; another colored in box; contact parents; a visit to Mrs. Davis

1st and 2nd grade:
1st offense: Students will receive one verbal warning & name on board
2nd offense: Check next to name; points deducted as outlined by 1st & 2nd grade points system
3rd offense: Second check; points deducted; contact parents
4th offense: Third check; points deducted; contact parents; a visit to Mrs. Davis

Contacting parents:  A log will be kept of all points off/ colored boxes by each Specials teacher. If a student earns points off or has a colored box more than 3 times in my class, the parents will be contacted via email. If the behavior continues, the parents will again be notified and, if needed, a conference with the parents to discuss interventions that can be made in order to improve behavior will be discussed. Parents will also be contacted if a student loses a significant amount of points in one class or if a student receives multiple colored in boxes in one class.

Positive Reinforcement
Caught Being Good
Students “caught being good” in class demonstrate many positive character traits as well as following directions for the day. They will receive their “caught being good” slip to add to a drawing at the end of the week for a prize. Specials teachers provide their own unique slip.

You/Me Game & Color Behavior Chart
Each day in specials, the class can earn a blue, yellow or red depending on their behavior.
If the class earns more points in the “you/me game” (“you” given for good choices students make) than the teacher (“me” earns points for not so good choices the students make) the class earns a blue. If the teacher wins the game, the class earns a yellow. If the class continues poor behavior through out the class period, they can fall to a red. If a class receives a yellow or red—they are asked to write the Specials teacher an apology note. All classes are expected to earn a blue in specials. On occasion, a class will earn so many points that they earn a ‘double blue’.

Each specials teacher will have a flag that represents his/her subject. The class with the most ‘blues’ at the end of each quarter will be presented a flag to hang outside their classroom. It is possible for the same class to earn more than one flag.

Additional Incentives for Good Behavior
Specials may offer additional incentives for classes/students to demonstrate desired behavior in a variety of ways. These are at the teacher’s discretion and can vary by grade level and/or class.
